Depart Chicago on Scandinavian Airlines.
July 15 (Sunday)
Arrive Gothenburg, Sweden's second-largest city and site of the GOTHIA CUP, the second-largest tournament in the world. Motorcoach transfer to school accommodation for players and coaches, hotels for adults. Upon arrival, registration of the team takes place and everyone settles into the chosen level of accommodations. Adults stay at the Hotel Scandic Crown in Gothenburg.
July 16 - 17 (Monday - Tuesday)
First round games are played over these two days for over 1,500 teams from 65+ countries. The massive Opening Ceremonies begin this evening in Ullevi Stadium for over 40,000 coaches, players and accompanying adults.
July 18 (Wednesday)
Games continue. After the first round, teams are seeded into "A" and "B" levels for the play-offs depending on their order of finish. Attend the professional soccer match in the stadium that night.
July 19 (Thursday)
Second round of the tournament, which is a knockout round, begins. After the first round the top two finishers in each group continue in the "A" Final while the bottom teams participate in the "B" Finals.
Optional visit to Liseberg Amusement park in the evening for fun and excitement if desired.
July 20 (Friday)
Quarter-finals and semi-finals are played today.
July 21 (Saturday)
The "A" Finals are held in Ullevi Stadium
At 6:45pm - Motorcoach to the ferry terminal for the sailing to Denmark with a short 45 minute motorcoach to the Dana Cup in Hjorring. Upon arrival, we settle into our school accommodations. Each team has one classroom. Adults stay at the Hotel Fyrklit
July 22 (Sunday)
Training Session with Coach Odd Fossum, who is the Fortuna Hjorring Women’s Soccer team Head coach and the former National Coach of Norway.
July 23 (Monday)
The day is free. In the evening are the Opening Ceremonies for the Dana Cup, attended by over 20,000 coaches, players and spectators in the stadium.
July 23 - 28 (Tuesday - Saturday)
The DANA CUP competition begins for approximately 850 teams from 55+ countries. During the CUP there are as many people affiliated with teams as live in the town (25,000) so the atmosphere is similar to a mini-Olympic village! After the first round in which teams are broken into groups of four, teams then continue in the tournament in a knock-out competition in both the “A” and & “B” brackets.
July 23 (Tuesday)
BBQ on the Beach! 8:00pm
July 28 (Saturday)
Finals are held in the Stadium on Saturday. Motorcoach to Copenhagen with accommodations at the Copenhagen Island Hotel which is walking distance to Tivoli Gardens. Visit Tivoli Gardens that night.
July 29 (Sunday)
After breakfast at the hotel, there will be a three-hour guided tour of Copenhagen. At the tour’s conclusion, the motorcoach will transfer us to Kaastrup Airport for the return flight to USA.
